Then there was cake

I am broadening my creativity and tried making some cakes. I made one just for the heck of it and then I made two to celebrate Veteran's day at work. I knew that we were going to get our butts kicked that day and no one would have time to eat - so lets make cake :)

Enjoy! Tomorrow is time for buckeyes and oreo truffles! Keep your eyes posted!

Now for the Veteran's Day cakes :)

This was my favorite part of the cake - the layers inside. I thought they turned out really great!

Mummy Cupcakes

With Halloween coming up, I wanted to make cupcakes with a Halloween theme to them. I finally came up with one, with some inspiration from the internet :) Let me know what you think.

Cupcake Cake

Sorry for the delay in having new designs up. Life has been rather hectic lately, but I finally have time to upload new pictures.

My best friend was coming in town for her birthday, so I wanted to make her something neat to celebrate it! So what's better than a cupcake? A cupcake cake! Hope you enjoy the pics!

The top of the cake was oreo and the bottom of the cake was chocolate. Chocolate frosting on the top with star sprinkles!

Decorating 101

So I took my first cupcake class at Country Kitchen Sweet Art last night and learned a lot of fun stuff. I am no longer afraid of fondant :) I thought it would be really difficult to do but it wasn't. I also learned how to fill cupcakes which is much easier than anticipated also. I got to bring home all of the items that we decorated, however they are all going to work for others to eat :) Here are some of the pictures!

Cupcake filled with hazelnut then put into a coffee cup with a whipped icing on top.
Pumpkin cupcake with cinnamon icing with a fondant pumpkin on top

Mini cupcake bouquet

I made those flowers out of fondant :)

Flower made out of fondant with the an A embellished inside of it then painted with edible paint

Snowflake with fondant with edible silver paint on top. This is also coconut filled with raspberry.

Peppermint cupcake with a delicious frosting with candy canes made out of white chocolate.

Red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing with holly leaves made out of fondant as well.

Cupcake filled with Carmel inside with fondant on top to look an ornament.

Chocolate hazelnut cupcake with an edible image on the top with sprinkles on the side.

Which one is your favorite?

Peanut Butter Cupcakes

We are celebrating a friends birthday tomorrow night, so I thought I would make her some cupcakes for her birthday. I found a recipe that looked good, and then I added my own twist to it. These are the first cupcakes that I have made from scratch. Inside of the cupcake is a Reese's in the middle of it.
Reese's in the middle of the cake batter
I had never made these before so I was wondering how the Reese's would look once they were baked. They turned out a lot better than I thought they would.

They kind of remind me of the sugar cookies that I make at Christmas time with a Kiss on the top. Just by the way they look. Instead of just using a plain vanilla or chocolate for the frosting, I wanted to add a bit of twist to it. So I added a 1/2 cup of peanut butter to the chocolate frosting. It tastes really good.

Hamburger Cupcake

Our Kitchen Manager, Toemas, is leaving us for another store, so I thought I would make him a treat on the last day that I worked with him. So what would be the best cupcake to make for the manager who works in the kitchen? Hamburger cupcakes!!! I thought that they would be difficult but they were a lot easier than that I thought. Here are a few a pictures.

In the process of making the hamburgers, I also made the Oreo Cupcakes again. They were requested by some of the staff at Applebee's because they didn't get to try them the first time. I decided to spice it up and use color frosting on top. I think they came out great!

My first paid client!!!

The Cupcake Experiment had their first paid client :) My co-worker asked me if I would make cupcakes for her son's carry in. I had a tough time deciding which one's to make because I haven't made that many and I of course wanted them to come out looking great! So I decided on fall cupcakes. I figured what kid wouldn't like sprinkles, frosting, twizzlers and pumpkin candies on a cupcake? This is the first time I made them and I thought they turned out rather cute. What do you think?

 Full pan of them :)

Close up :)

If you're interested in me making cupcakes for your next event, let me know :)

Just out of curiosity, does anyone read this?

Oreo Cupcakes

I was looking around on the web for cupcake ideas and came across this recipe. I wanted to give it try. I know they are much simpler than the previous cupcakes I have made but sometimes simple is good!

I pulled apart the Oreo's (with the help from the boyfriend) and they get baked into the cupcake.

I then crushed the part of the Oreo's that were pulled apart, and put it in the cupcake mix to be baked in. Fill the cupcake liner 3/4 full.

It's hard to tell from this picture, but it is the Oreo that is baked into the bottom of the cupcake.

Ta-da! My first attempt at piping! Some where bad and others (like this one) came out rather good. I definitely need to work on my piping skills.

Oreo cupcake with the Oreo on top! It doesn't get much better than this! Oreo on the bottom, Oreo crumbs in the cupcake itself and than an Oreo on top!

 Another nearly-perfect looking one :)

All of them! Some of them aren't piped and just have frosting spread on top of them. You can only do so good on your first try.

This is going to be a busy week with cupcakes! I got my first paid customer!!! I making my co-worker cupcakes her son's carry in! I will be posting pictures up this week. Also, one of our managers is leaving to go to another store, so I am going to attempt to make a cupcake that I have never tried before. I don't want to give it away though, so stay tuned for pictures :)

The ants go marching one by one....

Hooray! Hooray!

So for a co-workers birthday (that was this weekend) I wanted to make her cupcakes. When I was deciding which one's to make, I looked through my cupcake books. I found a cute one, but they definitely didn't come out looking like I wanted.  ((Steph I promise I will make you cuter cupcakes at a later date))

The green frosting for the grass :) I don't have a picture of the ingredients because I used stuff that I already had in my pantry.
I know that it's a little blurry but here is the first attempt. I died coconut and put it around the cupcake. On top of the ant, is a watermelon gummy. It didn't stay on very well so I decided to not go with it. I also tried using icing to do the legs, but they didn't bend the way that I wanted them too.

The top of them. Like I said, they don't look very cute. They look like cupcakes I should be making for Halloween, not for someone's birthday ((again Steph, I promise I will make other ones)).

Then there were twelve ants! ((There is actually 24 but these look better than the other one's)) The legs worked a lot better when I used frosting. I decided to not use the coconut because it looks better without it to me.

Stayed tuned for the next set :) I'm looking forward to the one's I'm making next. Also, I'm rather excited because I signed up for a cupcake decorating class!

Me Want Cookie

I googled the word cupcake the other day and one of the images that I saw was a Cookie Monster cupcake. I decided that I had to try to make them because they were so darn cute.

These are the ingredients needed to make a Cookie Monster. They include chocolate chip cookies (broken in half), candy wafers (I used White Mint), blue sprinkles or sugar, and blue die.

I decided that I wanted to make the cupcake mix blue so go along with the theme of the blue cookie monster. It's neat to do different colored cupcake's. I've done tie-dyed ones before and they are really cute.

Cupcakes after they were baked. They look green in the picture but they're more like a blue-green color. They still came out good though.

While the cupcakes cooled, I then proceeded to die the icing blue. All you have to do is apply drops of blue die to the icing. Depending on how dark you want it, is how many drops you put in. I did around three or four.

I put the sprinkles in a bowl that way I could just dip the cupcake into the bowl. I wasn't sure which one I wanted to use: sugar or sprinkles. After trying both, I decided that the sprinkles looked the best.

Ta-Da! This is how he turned out. He is so cute it's going to be hard to eat him. For the first time, I think that it turned out rather cute.

All of them together at the end. They were quite easy and I can see myself making them again. Anyone need a cookie monster cupcake for a kids birthday?!?
