So I am not expecting many to read this, however I still find it exciting to share my cupcake experience's with others (that chose to read).
My boyfriend bought me a cupcake book back around Easter time because I fell in love with it Target. Once I started flipping through the book, I found a penguin cupcake. Now anyone that knows me, knows that I am OBSESSED with penguins. If there was a better and bigger word than obsessed, I would use it. So the minute I saw the picture, I knew that I had to try to make them. And so I did.
Correction: My friend Lindsey and I made these cupcakes together!
These are all of the items used to make the penguins. There were so many places that I had to go. I went to Scott's (Kroger for some of you), Hobby Lobby, Dunkin Doughnuts, Walmart and a candy store in the mall. Ingredients include, doughnuts, doughnut holes, gummy fish, star bursts, marshmallows, black food coloring, and chocolate chip cookies.
Pre-cut doughnuts. These are used for the bodies. You have to ice the top of the cupcakes and then stick the doughnuts (which are cut in half) on top of the icing. You then have to apply icing to the doughnut.
This is what the cupcake looks like after you apply the icing and with the doughnut hole on there as well. The doughnut hole is used as the head of the penguin.
This is what NOT to do. I forgot to put the cupcake in the freezer after all icing was applied. You have to put in the freezer for ten to fifteen minutes. If you don't, when you go place the melted frosting on the cupcake, it falls apart.
After the cupcake has been in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes, you dip the cupcake in the melted icing. This is what it looks like after the marshmallow and star-burst are applied to the penguin.
The finished penguin! I know it has no wings, but I had a rather difficult time making the wings. I know it's not the greatest looking but you can still get what I tried to make. I thought for my first attempt, it turned out rather amazing.
These are the icebergs that go along with the penguins. They are cupcakes with coconut shavings on top of the frosting. I used blue and white rock candy to make it look like ice. The colored candies are fish gummies.
